Four Patch

It was the ruffle and corner rosettes that caught my eye in this thrift store find. The quilt design without these extra elements would have been sufficient but the artist continued past the expected and created something extraordinary.

Each quilt block features a freehand machine stitched floral motif likely made on a domestic machine and straight line quilting between the body and borders of the project. The quilt corners are slightly rounded, and the binding hand stitched. The quilt binding and solid print backing feature fabrics not used in other parts of the project.

The quilt contains no information as to the time period it was made, but the yellow ruffle appears to be commercially manufactured which may represent emergence of sewing notions that appeared in the 1980’s.

This quilt measures 50 inches by 50 inches.
