Ruby Road

As I wandered through the aisles of the charming Phoenix antique store on a girls weekend in 2023, my eyes were drawn to a display of beautiful quilts near a sunlit window. I literally held my breath when I saw this Double Wedding Ring quilt in a symphony of colors and texture whispering of generations past.

As I carefully unfolded the quilt and laid it on the floor, my eyes took in the intricate stitches and worn fabrics absent of frayed edges and faded colors, common signs of wear and tear in vintage quilts. I gently turned the quilt over to see a solid ivory muslin backing with regularly spaced diamond shaped stains. It occurred to me that the dye from the black floral fabric used in the black and pink four patch at the intersection of each ring had bled through the batting and onto the backing. Aside from the unfortunate mishap, this quilt is in pristine condition.

This quilt measures 76 inches by 90 inches.
