Halloween Mystery - 2024

In making guild quilts I am usually not picky concerning the design choices of the host, accepting that my project will not be executed exactly as the template, for some reason, this quilt ended up with a lot of substitutions.

The first block completed on this Block of the Month hosted by American Quilting was the mini Bat Block inspired by Hocus Pocus Quilt pattern by Corrine Sovey and in honesty I was not impressed by the block instruction or fabric selection. I substituted the pumpkin and crow block which I designed for Sweet Kitty (apologies to Shari K. Fallis) and modified the spell block to include all the words from MacBeth, Act IV, Scene 1 rather than a select few.

If I find a photograph of the sample quilt I will include it on this post, the quilt designer used a light first border and dark busy second border, I felt the fabric selection took away from the body of the quilt so again, I edited.

Finally, Lacie Messerly custom machine quilted this project which breathed an additional level of WOW into it! It was also her suggestion to add ‘cat eyes’ to the cat….then ‘bat eyes’ to the bat which left a blind crow, so he got an eye too.

This quilt measures 58 inches by 64 inches
